These rustic but incredibly elegant and sophisticated sudare make anything served on them a special occasion. These hagi (lespedeza in Japanese) make a beautiful blank canvas for the presentation of anything from sushi to (as seen in the photo) clams or shellfish to other small bites or amuse bouche.
